PETICIJA HRVATSKOJ VLADI
PROTIV IZGRADNJE KANALA
Izmijenjene morske struje, smjer vjetrova i valova,
Uništene prirodne plaže kao posljedica promjene morskih struja i valova
Uništen prirodni krajobraz i prirodna luka Košljun,
Izgradnju nove i velike marine,
SVE TO POD MOTOM UBRZANOG NAPRETKA, PROMETNE POVEZANOSTI I OPĆEG DOBRA!!!???

DIVIDE THE ISLAND OF PAG
INTO 2 SEPARATE ISLANDS
A privately owned company named MOREUZ, led by the entrepreneur Zelimir Doder, otherwise well known for his financial affairs from the 1990's and the "Pag’s Ribbs affair", has received the blessing of the Mayor of Pag to dig through a canal which would connect the port Kosljun (on the south-east of island) with the Town of Pag (on the north-west of island). The canal would be 50m wide and for its realization a 5 metre tall hill would be removed. The construction should last 7 years during which the town of Pag and all its surroundings would be nothing but one big building site.
With this intervention the isle Pag would be divided into 2 separate parts and it would no longer be a single island.
Apart from the geographical changes, other consequences would follow:
Endangered and ruined Old Town of Pag with Romanic sacral monuments from 12th century,
Destruction of salt magazines which are monument heritage from the 13th century,
Destruction Pag's salt factory (pans) which date, by written documents, back to the 10th century, and possibly even further into the Roman period,
Wrecking of an area of therapeutic mud,
Polluion of fish hatchery,
The sea current, wind and waves will be changed,
Natural beaches will be degraded as a consequence of changes in the sea currents and waves,
Destruction of natural landscapes of the port Kosljun,
State road D-106 will be Intersected; which was the only connection between north and south of Croatia during the war,
Local population will remain destitute. Their tourist facilities will be disabled for at least 7 years during the construction period, and afterwards by new incoming competition of thousands of newly built apartments for rent and sale.
The digging of the canal will enable:
Extraction of more than 5 million m3 of valuable stone crude,
Bulk working of the whole Pag basin,
Formation of 200.000 m2 of new land for construction,
Building of a new big marina,
Construction of 2 new dismantled bridges for passages from one side of island to another,
Construction of 1000 to 1500 apartments for which there is no infrastructure,
Enormous earnings for investors and construction companies from the stone, land and apartment trade.
ALL THIS UNDER THE MOTO OF QUICK DEVELOPMENT, TRAFFIC CONNECTION AND PUBLIC GOOD!?
If you object to this destiny for Pag, please say this openly and sign the petition, which will be handed over to Croatian government.
