ZDENKO OREČ
Rođen je u Zvečevu, općina Voćin, 1930. Kao učitelj službovao u Slavoniji,
Lici, Istri i Podravini, živi u Ludbregu. Kao autor surađuje u Varaždinskim vijestima, Večernjem listu, Modroj lasti, izdanjima bjelovarskog Čvora. U privatnoj nakladi tiska zbirke aforizama i ‘bisera’ iz školskih zadaćnica i dosjetke. Do sada objavio tri zbirke haikua: Rijeke šume, 1996; Školjka u pijesku, 1997; Neprolazni susreti/Unpassable Encounters, 1999.Haikue objavljuje u časopisima i zbornicima, a tiskani su mu i u nekoliko antologija u Hrvatskoj i svijetu. Osnivač je ludbreških haiku-susreta, suurednik godišnjih izdanja Haiku Calendar/Rokovnik i Haiku-zbornika, a uređuje i godišnje zbornike haikua učenika osnovnih škola od 2002. godine. Za svoje haikue primio je nekoliko nagrada u zemlji i Japanu. Dobitnik je prijelaznoga Ludbreškoga stupa haiku-pjesnika za 2006. godinu, priznanja koje se dodjeljuje na Ludbreškim haiku-susretima od 2003. godine. Član je prosudbene komisije na natječaju za Haiku Calendar/Rokovnik, Ludbreg.

Born in Zvečevo (near Voćin) in 1930. He graduated from the college of Pedagogy and worked as a teacher in Slavonia, Lika, Istra and Podravina. Now retired, he lives in Ludbreg. He is the editor of sketches from the pupils’ notebooks,the author of an aphorism collection. He is the founder of annual Ludbreg haiku meetings and the editor of the miscellanies published on this occasion and the annual collections of haiku by grammar school pupils since 2002.
He has been publishing haiku in various journals, periodicals and common haiku collections in Croatia, participating in all haiku meetings. So far he has published three haiku collections; Rijeke šume(The Murmuring Rivers), Školjka u pijesku(A shell in the Sand), Neprolazni susreti/Unpassable Encounters. He participates in all Croatian haiku meetings.
For his haiku he has received awards and commendations in Croatia and Japan. In 2007 he received the Ludbreg Column of Haiku Poets, a yearly travelling recognition which has been awarded in Ludbreg Haiku Meetings since 2003.
He is a member of the jury at the haiku contest in English, the Haiku Calendar/Rokovnik, Ludbreg.

iza sunca što tone
netko se umiva.

beyond the setting Sun
someone washes his face.
2. Crna trepavica
na praznom papiru
otvorena zagrada.
A black eyelash

an opening bracket.
3. Ona mu okrene leđa
na mjesečini
obrisi brda u porastu.
She turns her back
in the moonlight
the mountain’s contour expands.
4. Ponad snijega
suhe travke
postaju više.
Above the snow
dry grass
taller and taller.
5. Ljetni pljusak.
Pod stablo padaju cvjetovi
na suho.
Summer downpour.
Under the tree-crown the blossoms
falling onto dry.
6. Propovijed
oko stupova majke
hvataju djecu.
During the sermon
mothers try to catch their kids
round the columns.
7. Zbog otpalih dunja
prastari dvorac
ima staru posjetu.
For windfall quinces
the ancient mansion gets
an old visitor.
8. Dosadna kiša:
ježevke kestena
glasno zijevaju.
That boring rain:
chestnut shells loudly
yawning.
9. Dostavno vozilo
radi u snijegu
miris kruha.
A delivery van
- working in the snow –
the smell of bread.
10. U kacu s kupusom
stavlja kriške dunje
mirisne dukate.
Into the cabbage tub
she puts slices of quince -
fragrant ducats.
11. Prolaz vozila:
smušeno lišće
mijenja polaske.
Passing vehicles:
confused leaves
changing departures.
12. Rubom sjenila
kruži jedna muha
po sobi zmajevi.
A fly circling
- around the edge of a lamp -
A dragon in the room.
13. Tv-sapunicama
ispiru sjećanja
na prljavi rat.
With TV serials
they are rinsing our memories
of the dirty war.

21. Sjemenke suncokreta
padaju
u svoju sjenu.

raste

A carved heart
