MARIJAN ČEKOLJ
Rođen je 21. veljače 1955. u Samoboru. Književnim stvaralaštvom počinje 1975, a od 1978. djeluje kao jedan od osnivača unutar samoborske književne
grupe “Katarza”.Objavio je sedam naslova lirike i šest zbirki haikua: Slika prirode
, 1989;U otvorenoj ruci cijelo je nebo tu, 1992; Mjesečina/Moonlight, 1994;
U srcu tišine/In Heart of Silence, 1997;
Tu i sada/Here and Now, 2000;
To!/This!, 2001
, te dvije zbirke vaka: Dah vječnosti/Breath of Eternity, 2000 i Trenuci istine, 2001.Priredio antologiju Haiku iz rata/War Haiku, 1992. i drugo dopunjeno izdanje 1995. Također je, u koautorstvu s Marinkom Španovićem, uredio i dvojezičnu (hrvatski/engleski) antologiju hrvatske haiku-poezije Otvoren put/ Free Road, 2003. Osnivač je i predsjednik Hrvatskoga haiku društva, Samobor, glavni i odgovorni urednik časopisa za haiku Vrabac/Sparrow te izdavačdvojezične biblioteke Hrvatski haiku pjesnici/ Croatian Haiku poets u kojoj su do sada tiskane 32 knjige.
Haiku Marijana Čekolja tiskan je u mnogim svjetskim antologijama, nagrađivan je na brojnim natječajima za haiku te objavljivan na desetak jezika u cijelome svijetu. Član je Američkoga biografskog instituta, Međunarodnoga biografskog centra sveučilišta Cambridge, Engleska, Haiku International Association, Tokio, Japan. Za svoje stvaralaštvo i rad u kulturi dobio je brojne pohvale i nagrade u zemlji i svijetu.

Born on February 21st 1955 in Samobor. He became active with literature in 1975 and in 1978 he was among the founders of the Samobor literary group “Katarza”. So far he has published seven books of poetry, and six books of haiku poetry: Slika prirode, 1989; U otvorenoj ruci cijelo je nebo tu, 1992; Mjesečina/Moonlight, 1994; U srcu tišine/In Heart of Silence, 1997; Tu i sada/Here and Now, 2000; To!/This!, 2001, and two waka collections: Dah vječnosti/Breath of Eternity, 2000 i Trenuci istine/Moments of Truth, 2001.Marijan is the editor of the Croatian Haiku Anthology Haiku iz rata/War Haiku, 1992 and the second enlarged edition, 1995. In co-authorship with Marinko Španović, he edited the anthology Otvoren put/Free road, 1999. He is the founder and the president of the Croatian Haiku Society in Samobor and the editor in chief of the bilingual haiku journal Vrabac/Sparrow. He has published and edited 32 books of the bilingual series The Croatian Haiku Poets.
His haiku has been published in many world anthologies, he has received many awards and commendments for haiku which have been published all over the world in more than 10 languages. He is a member of The American Bibliographical Institute, International Biographical Centre of the University of Cambridge, England and the Haiku International Association, Tokyo, Japan. For his creative achievements and cultural activities he has received numerous acknowledgments and awards in Croatia and abroad.

2. Ljetna suša.
Blistavilo zvijezda
sve je bljeđe.
Summer drought.
The dazzling stars
all become pale.
3. Prva jesenska kiša.
Šum vodopada
sve je glasniji
First Autumn rain -
the murmur from a waterfall

4. Da li me ikada
potražiš u sjećanju
svoje samoće?

to find me in the memory

5. Noćni leptir
izgubljen u svjetlosti
kuhinjskog stola.
Night moth
lost in the light
of the kitchen table.
6. Tu, iza krošnje,
sunce tone na drugu
stranu svijeta.
Here, behind the crown
of a tree, the Sun going down
to the next side of world.
7. Suho korito potoka:
nema vode
nema mjeseca.
Dry brook bed.
- No water -
no moon.
8. Čak ni ruševine
ne pokazuju
gdje je bilo selo.
Not even the ruins
can show where
the village was.
9. Olujna kiša.
Mrav plovi na latici
divljeg kestena.
Stormy rain.
An ant sails on a petal
of horse-chestnut.
10. Ledena magla.
Kosturi stabala zjape
otvorenim nebom.
Icy fog.
The tree skeletons gape
at the open sky.
11. Bijela zimska
noć. Planinski borovi
u tihoj hladnoći.
White winter night.
The mountain pines
in the silent cold.
12. Cijelu noć
samoćom se hrani
lavež psa.
The whole night
the dog’s bark feeds
on the loneliness.
13. Kosidba noću.
Pokošen mjesec u kaplji
rose na travki.
Haymaking at night.
Scythed moon in the dewdrop
on a grass blade.
14. Nov oblik vode
u otisku teletova
papka u blatu.
In the fresh print of
the calf ’s hoof in the mud
new form of water
15. Stari mlin.
Polako se okreće
kotač vremena.
Old water-mill.
The wheel of time keeps
turning slowly.
16. Prošao je voz
sijena. Mirisna odsutnost
lebdi u zraku.
Hovering in the air
long after the hay cart passed
the fragrance.
17. Iz noćne tame
izranja blaga svjetlost
proljetne kiše.
Out from the night gloom
emerges the soft light of
the springtime rain.
18. U mraku tvorničke
hale umire jedan
proljetni cvijet.
In the darkness of
the factory hall one spring
flower is dying.
19. Praveći se
da spava, djevojčica je
stvarno zaspala!
Prettending to sleep
the little girl really
fell asleep!
20. Mjesec plovi sa
oblacima na nebu
ne mičući se.
The moon sails along
- with the clouds in the sky -
without a movement.
21. Ljetna vrućina
spržila je sve.
Čak i sušu.
The summer heat
has scorched everything.
Even the drought!
22. Bombardiranje.
I maleno mače trči
u sklonište!
Bombing.
A small cat, too, runs.
into the shelter!
23. U krater avionske
bombe polako pada
uveo list
In the bomb crater
slowly falling
... a withered leaf ...
24. Crvena zora
nad Zagrebom. Negdje je
bila krvava noć.
A red daybreak
over Zagreb. There was a bloody
night somewhere.
25. Kako vješto
mjesec pliva, rastočen
valovima mora!
How skillfully
the moon swims, melted
