DUŠKO MATAS
Rođen je 1933. u Kaštel Starom kod Splita, živi u Zagrebu. Diplomirao na Medicinskom fakultetu u Ljubljani, i na Pravnom fakultetu u Splitu; specijalizacija neurologije i psihijatrije, te supspecijalizacija iz sudske psihijatrije u Zagrebu. Obranio je doktorsku dizertaciju i stekao naslov primarijusa.
Objavio je više desetaka stručnih i znanstvenih radova, djelovao je u više strukovnih komisija te sudjelovao u brojnim stručno-znanstvenim skupovima u zemlji i inozemstvu. Najdulje je radio u Institutu za prometnu medicinu. Još uvijek je radno aktivan.
Haiku piše i objavljuje od 1988. u haiku-publikacijama, dnevnicima, časopisima, zbornicima i antologijama u Hrvatskoj i stranim državama (18).
Objavljene su mu samostalne knjige haiku-poezije: Vodene trave (1991), Vrh planine/Mountain Top (1998) i Ljubavna priča/Love Story (1999). Urednik je i jedan od autora također dvojezičnih (hrvatski/engleski), zbirki haikua Sedam putova/Seven Ways (2000) i Novih sedam putova/Seven New Ways (2003). U pripremi za tisak je Olovka i kist (četverojezična zbirka: hrvatski, slovenski, engleski i japanski) s hajgama. Haikuima je zastupljen u zbornicima poezije hrvatskih liječnika: Vukovarsko zvono (1995), Lijet sarmatskog sokola (1996) i Sat bezvremena (1999). Haikui su mu tiskani i u ‘Croatian Medical Journal’ (2003).Sudjeluje u radu haiku-susreta u Hrvatskoj: u Samoboru, Ludbregu, Krapini - Dani Dubravka Ivančana, te Kloštar Ivaniću. Bio je jedan od urednika u hrvatskom časopisu Haiku. Član je prosudbene komisije na natječaju na hrvatskom standardu i čakavskom narječju Kloštar Ivanić 2005-2007. Primio je niz nagrada, pohvala i priznanja na domaćim i međunarodnim natječajima haiku-pjesništva.

He has published dozens of professional and scientific papers, participated in several vocational comissions and has taken part at numerous professional-scientifical congresses in the country and abroad. The longest time he worked at the Institute for traffic medicine. He is still professionally employed.
Haiku he has written and published since 1988 in haiku publications, newspapers, magazines, literary journals, miscellanies and anthologies in Croatia and 18 countries abroad. He published three independent haiku collections: Vodene trave (Water Grasses), 1991, Vrh planine/Mountain Top, 1998 and Ljubavna Priča/Love Story, 1999. He is the editor and among the authors in the common collections Sedam putova/Seven ways, 2000 and Novih sedam putova/ Seven New Ways, 2003 both published in Croatian and English. About to be published is the haiku collection Pencil and Brush (a four-language collection in Croatian, Slovenian, English and Japanese) with haigas.
Duško Matas’s haiku have been presented in joint collections of poetry by Croatian doctors: The Bell of Vukovar(1995), Flight of the Sarmat Falcon (1996), An Hour of Eternity (1999). His haiku have been published in the Croatian Medical Journal (2003) as well. He publishes haiku, takes part on all gatherings of Croatian haijins, and his haiku have been published in the yearly editions on these occasions in Samobor, Ludbreg, Krapina (Haiku Day of Dubravko Ivančan), Kloštar Ivanić and Ludbreg’s Calendar with competition in English. For his haiku he has received numerous awards and commendations at home and in Japan, Australia, USA, Great Britain and Unesco, Paris. He was among the editors of the magazine Haiku. He was a selector at Kloštar Ivanić Haiku competition, Croatian standard and Tschakavian dialect 2005-2007.
