1. sova u duplji
prati pokret prolaznika
okretom glave
an owl in a hollow
follows with a turn of its head
the passer-by
2. na tom otoku
lubanje magaraca
njaču u vjetar
on that island
donkey’s skulls bray
into the wind
3. na kraju dana
tragovi konjskih kopita
skreću u blato
the end of the day
tracks of horse’s hoofs
turning to mud
4. vruće podne
smetlar i kolica
krivudaju
hot noon -
dustman’s cart
zigzagging
5. iz kamena
izvire izvor
u kamen
from the cliff
spurts the spring
into the cliff
6. na kraju grada
teku rijekom uzvodno
vjetar i oblaci
at the end of town
flowing upstream
the wind and the clouds
7. kokodakanje!
vječna slava i hvala!
ovom jajetu!
great cackling!
eternal glory and praise!
to this egg!
8. iz hlada smokve
u klisuri nad morem
bleji ovčica
out of the fig-tree’s shade
in a gorge above the sea
bleats a lamb
9. u hladovini
sjede drvene klupe
iz starog kina
in the shade
sit wooden benches
from the old cinema
10. lampa u zoru
dok pas piša po zidu
čitam grafite
a lamp at dawn
while the dog pees on the wall
I read the graffiti
11. teških cipela
tragovi u prašini
hodaju za mnom
with heavy shoes
traces in the dust
walk after me
12. nagnut nad njivu
ne prati više sunce
zreli suncokret
bent over the meadow
not following the sun any more
a ripe sunflower
13. crni oblaci
prepuni su svjetlosti
s druge strane
black clouds
full of light
on the opposite side
14. u snježnoj pustoši
ponovno dolazim
na svoje tragove
in the snow desert
once again discovering
my own footprints
15. i kada leti
vuče se po zemlji
vranina sjena
as the crow flies
its shadow keeps dragging
along the ground
16. u sivo nebo
s laticama trešnje
penje se bršljan
into the grey sky
following cherry petals
the ivy scrambles
17. sama u blatu
vunena rukavica
grije cestu
alone in the mud
a wool glove
warming the road
18. pucketa vatra
sjećanja na djetinstvo
plešu po stropu
the fire crackling
memories of the childhood
dance on the ceiling
19. kad sam ga uhvatio
sav se u srce pretvorio
mali divlji zec
after I caught it
the whole of a little wild rabbit
turned into a heart
20. pod tamnim nebom
u kapljicama kiše
prezreli šipak
under a dark sky
in the raindrops
overripe rose hips
21. mala su sunca
i zrele bobe imele
u mjesečini
little suns are
even the ripe mistletoe berries
in the moonlight
