Otvoren prozor:
Oblaci zauzimlju
Čitavo nebo.
Open window:
The clouds capture
The whole sky.
Kroz prozorsko staklo
Sunce već obasjava
Ruku što piše.
Through the window pane
The Sun already shines
On the hand that writes.
Jutro. Sunašce
U grani bora ljubi
Svaku iglicu posebno.
Morning. The Sun
In the pine-tree kisses
Each needle in turn.
Divim se cvijetu
Svakom, na svakoj trešnji
Cijeloga svijeta.
I admire every flower
On each cherry-tree
Of all world.
Sjećam se da sam
Želio djevojčicu
Držat za ruku.
I remember
I wanted to hold the little girl
By the hand.
Pas lancem svezan
U dvorištu. Čeka mog
Brata da se vrati.
Dog chained
In the yard. Waiting for my
Brother to return.
Daleko sam od kuće,
U bolnici. Cipele me čekaju
Da ih obujem.
I’m far away from home,
In the hospital. My shoes wait
To be put on.
U staklu prozora
Neprestano se njiše
Toranj katedrale.
The Cathedral tower
Swaying constantly
In the window pane.
Očekujem gosta.
A na vratima prosjak:
Dajte mi za kruh!
Awaiting a guest.
The beggar at the door:
Give me for bread!
Vrabac na prozoru
I kljucka i ne zna da
Uđe u pjesmu.
Sparrow on a window sill
Pecks not knowing
It entered a poem.
Prolaze ponoćni sati:
Jedan, dva, tri, četiri. Kod mene
Sjedi Dubravko Ivančan.
Hours after midnight:
One, two, three, four. By me
Sits Dubravko Ivančan.
Žar od duhana,
Izdaleka vidljiv, ispred
Glava kosaca.
Glow of tobacco,
Seen from afar, in front
Of the men and scythes.
Čekam da procvate
Trešnjik mog prijatelja
Da mu se divim!
I await my friend’s
Cherry-orchard’s blossoming
So I can marvel at it!
Vjetar uleti u dom:
Traži blago, opsuje,
Vrati se razočaran.
Wind runs into my home
Looking for riches, swearing,
Leaves disappointed.
Zatvorena knjiga
Na stolu gdje pišem:
Šuti ko zemlja.
A closed book
On the table where I write:
Silent as the earth.
