ANTO GARDAŠ
(1938-2004.)Rođen je 21. svibnja 1938. u Agićima kraj Dervente, a umro u Osijeku, 10. lipnja 2004. godine u Osijeku gdje je živio i djelovao od 1974. godine. Gimnaziju je završio 1958. u Našicama, a diplomirao 1968. na Pravnome fakultetu u Zagrebu. Od 1973. bio je stalno zaposlen u osječkoj pošti (HPT). Bio je član Društva hrvatskih književnika (DHK) i predsjednik Ogranka DHK slavonskobaranjsko-srijemskoga.
Anto Gardaš bio je književnik širokih tematskih zapisa i objavio je više od četrdeset knjiga iz područja dječje književnosti i književnosti za mlade, poezije i haikua, fantastične i realistične proze. Neumorno je putovao i posjećivao hrvatske škole, čitajući učenicima svoju poeziju i prozu. Jedan je od najznačajnih književnika grada Osijeka za djecu i mlade i jedan od najčitanijih hrvatskih pisaca za djecu, prisutan u školskoj lektiri onih najmlađih i onih tinejdžerskog uzrasta.

, 1994; Žuborenja, 1996; Sto sunovrata, 1997; Bijela tišina, 2003; Sjaj mjesečine, 2003.Za svoje haikue bio je nagrađivan prestižnim nagradama i pohvalama u Japanu, (Ito-En, Kusamakura). Sudjelovao je u radu brojnih haiku-susreta u Hrvatskoj, a haikui su mu tiskani u brojnim antologijama i časopisima.

Born in Agići near Derventa on May 21st 1938, died in Osijek on June 10th 2004, where he lived since 1974. He graduated from grammar school in Našice and from the Law School in Zagreb in 1968.
He was a writer dealing with a variety of themes and wrote about forty books, mostly for younger readers: novels, fairy-tales, stories, poems, role plays. He received several awards for his novels and poetry in Croatia. He was a member of the Croatian Writer’s Association (DHK) and the president of its branch for Slavonia and Baranya. He was among the most important Croatian writers for children and juveniles. He visited hundreds of Croatian grammar and secondary schools throughout the years, reading his poetry and prose to the pupils.
He published five haiku collections. For his haiku he received several high awards and commendations in Japan. He participated actively in haiku meetings in Croatia and his haiku was published in many haiku collections, periodicals and anthologies.

Svaka krošnja zuji
istu melodiju.
Blossoming plums.
Every crown buzzing
the same tune.
2. Jorgovan cvate!
Hrpa godina na leđima
postaje lakša.
Blossoming lilac;
the heap of years on one’s back
becomes lighter.
3. Slavuj - pjesmom je
još i prije svanuća
razbistrio mrak.
The nightingale -
singing before the dawn
lit up the darkness.
4. U prvi sumrak
- pogledaj! - još je bjelja
višnja u cvatu.
At first dusk
- look! - it’s whiter
the sour cherry in blossom.
5. Trešnju u cvatu
on gleda ne skidajući
sunčane naočale.
He looks at the cherry tree
in blossom without taking off
his sunglasses.
6. Kad stignu rode
svaka kuća u Kopačevu
dobije - nadstanare.
When the storks come
each house in Kopačevo
gets some attic tenants.
7. Ispred muzeja
rimski sarkofag zasule
latice breskve.
In front of the museum
an ancient Roman sarcophagus covered
with peach petals.
8. Kraj panja zrije
stručak jagoda; neću,
neću ih brati.
Ripening by a tree stump
a bunch of strawberries, I won’t
I won’t pick them up.
9. Do na kraj svijeta
stazom kroz mlado žito
laganim hodom.
Till the end of the world
pacing the path
through young grain.
10. Golub
kljunom
broji korake.
- A pigeon -
counting the paces
with its beak.
11. Skriven u travi
pod zrakom sunca oživi
komadić stakla.
Hidden in the grass
a piece of glass becomes alive
under the ray of sun.
12. Režući dinju
sjetih se da još nisam
nahranio psa.
Cutting a melon
I found out I still hadn’t
fed my dog.
13. Topla lipanjska večer.
Svi mirisi preplavljeni
mirisom lipe.
Warm June night.
All fragrances overpowered
by the scent of linden.
14. Sjaj mjesečine.
Žabica se uspinje
na list lopoča.
The moonlight brightness,
a little frog climbs
onto a water-lily’s leaf.
15. Ljetna noć
prikovana golom nebu
zlatnim čavlima.
The summer night
nailed to a bare firmament
by golden nails.
16. Kud god pogledam:
uboge tratinčice,
tako lijepe!
Wherever I look
poor daisies,
so beautiful!
17. Ljetni pljusak
ukucava u more
srebrne čavle.
Spring shower
hammering silver nails
into a still sea.
18. Kakva studen
no zatvorim li vrata nestat će
trak mjesečine.
- How cold it is -
but if I shut the door
the moonlight will vanish!
19. Jesensko jutro.
Šumarak i vrištinu
pritišće magla.
Autumn morning.
The fog is squashing the grove
and the heather.
20. Kraj trula panja
gušter i ja grijemo se
na istom suncu.
By a rotting stump
a lizard and I are warming
in the same sun.
21. Sićušna ptica
leti
po volji vjetra.
A tiny wren
flying in the rhythm
of the wind.
22. Trska u rijeci
izranja i uranja
na istom mjestu.
Reed in the river
diving in and out
at the same place.
23. Mutna rijeka
prevlači hrpu granja
preko mjeseca.
Troubled river
pulling a heap of boughs
over the Moon.
24. Slijedeći cestu
potočić se premješta
na desnu stranu.
Following the road
a brook moves
to the right side.
25. Lagašan vjetrić
dovoljno jak da ugasi
zűj komaraca.
- A gentle breeze
strong enough to extinguish
A mosquito’s buzzing.
26. Čitave noći
glasa se neka ptica
ne znam joj ime.
The whole night long,
- a bird is calling -
I forgot its name.
27. Pužev se roščić
- dotaknuvši vlat trave -
blago svinuo.
A snail’s tentacle
- having touched a blade of grass -
bent gently.
28. Duboka noć.
U susjedovom stanu
plač dojenčeta.
Deep night.
In the neighbour’s apartment
an infant’s cry.
29. Sav je moj život
samo kapljica vode
i - ništa više.
My whole life is
just a drop of water
and - nothing more.
30. U tamnoj noći
još se tamnijim čini
hukanje sove.
In a dark night
the owl’s hooting
seems even darker.
